Dr. Jack C. Stepp
Lead Pastor:
God called Jack C. Stepp, our senior pastor, into the ministry
of the Gospel at seven years of age. His definite sense of call
was confirmed in a special anointing at fifteen when he began preaching
in youth rallies and special services. He attended Olivet Nazarene
University where he served as Spiritual Outreach president, an evangelistic
organization of 800 Christian college students, and as student body
president. He was the national convention chairman for the American
Association of Evangelical Students during the Vietnam War era,
and planted an inner-city work to touch the lives of children and
their families with the love of Jesus Christ.
Pastor Stepp graduated with his master’s degree at the top
of his seminary class, and then earned a doctorate from the Midwestern
Baptist Theological Seminary in 1976. While in seminary he served
for several years as youth and children's pastor in Kansas City,
and then as senior pastor in a Detroit church for 6 years. There
he became district youth president, director of youth ministries
over a four-state region, and served on the denominational Youth
Ministries executive council.
Pastor Stepp and his wife Kay became Pentecostal Christians in
1982 and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he served as a staff pastor
at the City of Faith Hospital while Kay attended a Bible Institute.
Pastor Stepp came to South Hills Assembly in the summer of 1990
after serving for several years as senior pastor of the Word of
Life Fellowship in Steubenville, Ohio, where the church thrived
with a major relocation effort.
Pastor Stepp's main responsibilities are the proclamation of the
Word and leadership of the church's ministries with the help of
the Pastoral Staff, Deacon Board and Hillcrest Christian Academy
Leadership Committee. He teaches the Sanctuary Bible Class on Wednesdays
and in the SHA School of Ministry on Tuesday nights. The Stepps
are often hosts on CTV’s “Focus 4.”
Pastor Stepp was born in Miami, Florida, and was raised near Chicago,
Illinois. He and Kay were married in 1970.
Kay was born in Ottumwa, Iowa. She and Pastor met while in college,
and after graduation, she taught secondary English. Kay home schooled
their 3 sons in their elementary grades; all three are graduates
of Hillcrest Christian Academy.
Kay is Executive Director of Compassion
Connection, a 501 (c) (3) branch of South Hills Assembly. She also
oversees prayer and an adult mission's trip for the church. She
is credentialed with the Assemblies of God.
The Stepps eldest son, Jason is in his medical residency in Hershey,
PA. He and his wife, Rebekah, have two children, Joshua and Alyson.
Shawn is in Physician Assistant training in Portland, ME. He and
his wife, Jenna, have two children, Marie and Elena. Jared is children's
