Truth has amazing power for our lives, if we will believe it.

How can a man (POW Captain Gerald Coffee) have the most significant Christmas of his life without family, friends, home, gifts, carols, fun, games and food and celebrations? How can Christmas be so totally significant without any of the things we think makes Christmas Christmas ?

Captain Coffee said:

“Here in this place there was nothing to distract me from the awesomeness of Christ's birth.”

“It was the most significant Christmas of my life, because all there was was Christ ,”

When you remember that Who of Christmas,

then that Who will sustain you through the What of life.

POWERFUL TRUTHS:

I. Verse 21 - She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name, because he will save the people from their sins. Receiving Jesus by trusting God in your heart is the first step toward becoming holy .

A. First you become holy immediately because you are in Christ . Then second, as you live your life for Him, you become holy in life .

B. Jesus came into the world to save you from your sins in two ways. He saves from the ultimate consequence of your sins, namely eternal hell, a real place of torment. And second, He saves from the present domination of sin over your life.

II. v erse 23 - They shall call his name Emanuel, which means ‘God with us.'

That child that was born that day, though fully human , was also fully God . Hebrews 2:17, For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.

He goes to God with us ,when we pray, because He understands us. He has experienced our life.

III. The third title for Jesus in this passage is found in chapter 2 and verse 2. They (the Magi) said, Where is He who has been born king of the Jews?

Jesus was born a King, because He was King before He was ever born.

Isaiah spoke of him. He said, For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Of the increase of his government and peace, there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this. (9:6-7, NIV)

IV. He is named the Christ. “Christ” in Greek is the same as “Messiah” in Hebrew, and means The Anointed One . God's special anointed one. Again Isaiah spoke for Christ and Messiah: The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me.

You will have it all even when Jesus is all you have.
